Mafia: Trilogy PS4 & PS5 brings together all three Mafia games and their DLC in one package. Mafia is a series of action-adventure video games set in an open-world environment, each depicting a distinct era and the organised crime of that time. The first Mafia game was developed by Illusion Softworks (which later became 2K) and published by Gathering of Developers in 2002. Mafia II was created by 2K and released by 2K Games in 2010. Mafia III, the last game in the series, is coming out. It was developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games in 2016. For Mafia: Trilogy, 2K Games tasked Hangar 13 with remaking the first game, remastering the second and extending the third.
The most anticipated game of the trilogy has to be the original Mafia game, 2002's highly acclaimed title and the video game that put the series on the map. Players find themselves in the fictional American city of Lost Heaven, set during the Prohibition era (1930s), which takes its design from the architecture and atmosphere of New York, Los Angles and Chicago. The narrative is realistic, inspired by the gangster Thomas ‘Tommy’ Angelo and the gangster war between the Salieri and Morello families. The gameplay is mostly pedestrian navigation, shooting, driving and even racing from a third-person perspective. Cut-scenes establish transitions and connections between missions. A day/night cycle, car damage physics system and detailed graphics of the various structures of the fictional city - church, restaurants, airport, museum,
Mafia II takes players to the 1940s - 1950s era in the fictional American city of Empire Bay, centred on Boston, New York, Chicago, Detroit and San Francisco. The narrative is inspired by the story of Vito Scaletta, a Sicilian immigrant who enlisted in the US Army to avoid imprisonment and returned home after serving during World War II. Adding to the atmosphere of the time period is the licensed music. You can listen to in-game radios with news and adverts from the era. There are notable additions to the gameplay, the use of vehicles will pay attention to the seasons and weather, in addition to the standard action button in interacting with objects there is a second action button reserved for ‘violent’ action, a new cover and shooting controls.
Mafia III brings the atmosphere of the 1960s in the fictional American city of New Bordeaux, inspired by New Orleans. The game put players in the shoes of Lincoln Gray, a Vietnam War veteran seeking revenge on local gangsters who killed his adopted family. The game has grown in content and brought some improvements to the gameplay. The open world of this action-adventure video game is now larger than the worlds of the first games combined. Players can complete missions by killing enemies using a variety of weapons as in the previous games, but they can also ask for help, which comes in the form of an allied van assisting them. Aside from violent actions, players can complete missions using stealth tactics.
Mafia: Trilogy is your chance to own all these games with all the improvements and additions, including DLCs.
